It's a series of photographs of women of all different ages, shapes, and sizes, posing all over NYC. All the women are topless which is legal there , and the photos are not intended to be erotic. There are women with small breasts, large breasts, lopsided breasts, implants, and breasts that were reconstructed after double-mastectomies. Some of the women offer commentary. In a lot of countries, straight women and gay men are only likely to see topless women in movies, magazines, and strip clubs.
Erotic photography is a style of art photography of an erotic , sexually suggestive or sexually provocative nature. After the s erotic photography began to be less commonly referred to as such, and to be increasingly described as glamour photography. Erotic photography generally produces a composed image of a subject in a still position. Though the subjects of erotic photography are usually completely or mostly unclothed , that is not a requirement. Erotic photography should be distinguished from nude photography , which contains nude subjects not necessarily in an erotic situation, and pornographic photography , which is of a sexually explicit nature.
Sarah Silverman has recently called out the wild double standard of female nudity vs. male nudity.
Topfreedom is a cultural and political movement seeking changes in laws to allow women to be topless in public places where men are permitted to be barechested , as a form of gender equality. Specifically, the movement seeks the repeal or overturning of laws which restrict a woman's right not to have her chest covered at all times in public. In addition, topfreedom advocates seek allowing nursing mothers to openly breastfeed in public. Many societies [ which? In many jurisdictions [ which? Several countries in Europe have decriminalised non-sexual toplessness. Topless swimming and sunbathing on beaches has become acceptable in many parts of Europe, though the practice remains controversial in many places, and not common in most places. Many public swimming pools in Europe are owned by municipalities, which are treated as private organisations and allowed to set their dress codes. In many countries around the world, breastfeeding in public is not unusual. During — and earlier, a number of news reports in the United States cited incidents where women were refused service or harassed for breastfeeding in public.
It's and still, for some reason, a woman's naked body, no matter what, seems to be considered as sexual — no matter the context, and Sarah Silverman has had enough. After she posted a non-sexual topless photo of herself on Instagram, it was flagged and removed — as per the platform's guidelines. But for women, only post-op mastectomy scarring, women actively breastfeeding, and pictures of nude paintings or statues are permitted. She captioned each photo either "obscene" or "not obscene" for clarification. Sarah tagged Instagram, letting them know that they actually had taken down a photo of a man's chest unknowingly. Proving that even when a woman's body is presented in the least sexual way, it is prohibited on Instagram for being an obscenity. The photo on the right is the original topless photo she posted that got taken down, but this time she's blocked out her nipples. They commented that it shouldn't be up to women to hide themselves to avoid being sexualized — it should be up to others to stop constantly sexualizing women.
